Why Kitchen Disposal in Zürich Requires a Professional

A fitted kitchen is not a piece of furniture you can simply carry to the pavement. In Zürich, placing large items on the street without permission is illegal — and a full kitchen, with its cabinets, worktops, and appliances, generates far too much material for the Züri-Sack (Zürich's standard household waste bag system). Attempting to dispose of oneself can result in fines.

Kitchen disposal is also physically demanding. Base units are bolted to walls. Worktops are glued or siliconed in place. Built-in appliances — ovens, dishwashers, extractor hoods — must be disconnected before they can be removed. Without the right tools and experience, what looks like a simple clearance can become a full day's work, with the risk of property damage.

ZüriClean takes care of the entire process. We disassemble, remove, transport, and recycle your kitchen — handling everything from the first cabinet to the last loose screw. And because we also offer professional cleaning services, we can leave your flat spotless for the Wohnungsübergabe (flat handover) on the same visit.

What We Remove — Kitchen Items Covered

01

Fitted & Modular Kitchen Units

We remove all types of base units, wall-mounted cabinets, and tall storage units — whether they are a full designer kitchen or basic flat-pack cabinets. We disassemble doors, hinges, and carcasses where needed, and carry each piece out of the building.

02

Kitchen Worktops

Stone, laminate, wood, and solid surface worktops all require different removal techniques. Stone and quartz worktops are extremely heavy and require two-person teams with padding to avoid damage to staircases and floors. We handle removal without damage to surrounding surfaces.

03

Built-In Kitchen Appliances

We remove built-in ovens, dishwashers, extractor hoods, fridges, freezers, and hobs. Appliances must be fully disconnected before removal. We do not perform electrical or plumbing disconnections ourselves — we recommend these be completed by a specialist before our team arrives, and we can advise on this during your quote.

04

Kitchen Sinks & Plumbing Fixtures

Once your plumber has disconnected the water supply, we remove and dispose of kitchen sinks, mixer taps, and waste traps. These are sorted by material — stainless steel, ceramics, and plastic — for correct recycling.

05

Loose Kitchen Items

We also clear cookware, shelving, small appliances, and loose kitchen items left in the flat. If you are clearing an entire kitchen, our team can take everything in one visit — including items that would otherwise require multiple Züri-Sack trips.

How Kitchen Disposal Works — 4 Simple Steps

01

Step 1: Request Your Free Quote

You send us details about your kitchen — size, number of units, type of appliances, and floor level. We respond with a written fixed-price quote within a few hours. No hidden costs, no surprises on the day.

02

Step 2: We Confirm Your Booking

You choose a date and time window that suits you. We confirm by email. If your flat handover has a specific deadline, tell us — we prioritise urgent bookings and offer same-day availability when our schedule allows.

03

Step 3: Our Team Arrives and Removes Everything

We carry out the full disassembly and removal — doors, carcasses, worktops, appliances. We protect floors and stairways during the process. Heavy items are carried by two-person teams. The job is typically completed within 2–4 hours, depending on kitchen size and access.

04

Step 4: Eco-Compliant Disposal & Your Confirmation

All materials are sorted and delivered to licensed facilities — wood to the Recyclinghof Werdhölzli, metals to certified scrap processors, and compliant appliances to approved e-waste channels. You receive a written Entsorgungsnachweis (disposal confirmation) if required for your landlord or property manager.

Kitchen Disposal + Flat Cleaning: One Booking, One Team

ZüriClean is the only company in Zürich that offers both professional kitchen disposal and certified end-of-tenancy cleaning from a single provider. This combination is particularly valuable when you are vacating a rented flat — clearing the kitchen and preparing the property for landlord inspection can be handled in a single visit.

Why the combination makes practical sense:

No coordination: You book once, not twice. Our team carries out the kitchen removal first, then cleans the property — including the kitchen area — in the same session.
No cleaning after the removal crew: Kitchen removal creates dust, grime, and marks on walls and floors. Our cleaning team follows immediately, leaving the flat in handover-ready condition.
One invoice: You receive a single, itemised invoice covering both services — useful for tenants who need cost documentation for landlord negotiations.
Faster turnaround: Combining both services typically saves half a day compared to booking separately and waiting for two different teams on different days.

See our End-of-Tenancy Cleaning Zürich page for full details on our handover-guaranteed cleaning service.

What Happens to Your Kitchen After Collection

We do not take your kitchen to a general waste skip. Every material is sorted at the source and delivered to the correct licensed facility. Switzerland's USG (Umweltschutzgesetz) sets strict rules on material separation, and we comply with them on every job.

01

Wood (Cabinet Carcasses and Doors)

Untreated wood is delivered to ERZ-approved facilities for energy recovery or recycling. Painted or laminate-coated panels are classified as treated wood and processed separately — this distinction matters under Swiss regulations, and we handle it correctly.

02

Metal (Hinges, Handles, Sinks, Structural Parts)

Steel, aluminium, and brass components are sorted and delivered to certified metal recyclers. Stainless steel sinks are recycled as a priority metal.

03

Stone & Ceramic (Worktops, Tiles, Splash-Backs)

Stone and ceramic waste is delivered to inert material facilities. We do not mix stone with general waste — it cannot be processed in standard recycling streams.

04

Electrical Appliances

All electrical appliances are processed through authorised e-waste channels in compliance with the Swiss VRB (vorgezogener Recyclingbeitrag) pre-paid recycling system. Fridges and freezers containing FCKW refrigerants are handled by specialists — see our dedicated section below.

05

Plastics and Mixed Materials

Plastic drawer liners, flexible piping, and mixed-material items are sorted to the extent possible. Where recycling is not viable, items are processed at a licensed waste-to-energy facility.

Why Kitchen Disposal Is Not Standard Furniture Removal

Most customers assume that disposing of a kitchen works the same as disposing of a wardrobe or a sofa. It does not — and understanding why can save you from booking the wrong service and facing delays or additional costs.

01

The Mixed-Material Problem

A fitted kitchen combines at least five different material categories: wood, metal, stone or composite, glass, and plastic. Swiss law — specifically the USG and associated cantonal guidelines — requires these materials to be sorted and delivered to separate facilities. A general removal company that tips an entire kitchen into one skip is not compliant with Swiss regulations.

ZüriClean sorts at source — our team separates materials during removal, not afterwards. This is faster, cheaper (no re-handling costs), and fully compliant.

02

The FCKW Risk in Older Kitchens

FCKW (Fluorchlorkohlenwasserstoffe) are refrigerant gases found in fridges and freezers manufactured before approximately 1995. These refrigerants are highly regulated under the Swiss Chemikalien-Risikoreduktions-Verordnung (ChemRRV) because they deplete the ozone layer.

If your kitchen contains a built-in fridge or freezer from before 1995, standard disposal is not sufficient. The appliance must be handled by a certified specialist who extracts and destroys the refrigerant before the unit is scrapped. Failure to do so correctly is a regulatory offence in Switzerland.

ZüriClean identifies FCKW-risk appliances during the initial assessment. Where specialist refrigerant handling is required, we coordinate this on your behalf — you do not need to find a specialist yourself. This is included in our quote or clearly itemised if it requires a separate cost.

Important: If you are unsure whether your built-in fridge or freezer was manufactured before 1995, look for the model number on the rear panel. A ZüriClean team member can advise you during the quote process.

Why Zürich Residents Choose ZüriClean for Kitchen Disposal

02

English-Speaking Team

Our team is fully English-speaking — ideal for expats and international residents who are not fluent in German. We communicate clearly about what we will do, when we will arrive, and what you need to prepare.

03

Cleaning + Disposal From One Provider

No other company in Zürich offers both professional kitchen disposal and certified flat cleaning. ZüriClean does. This means you can book your kitchen clearance and your end-of-tenancy clean in a single call — one team, one visit, one invoice.

04

Liability Insurance

We carry full liability insurance covering any accidental damage to walls, floors, or staircase fittings during removal. Property damage during kitchen removals is rare — but it can happen, and you are protected.

06

Local Expertise, Swiss Compliance

We operate exclusively in Zürich and the Canton of Zürich. We know the access restrictions in Altstadt, the parking permit requirements in Oerlikon, and the Recyclinghof drop-off rules. We handle Swiss regulatory compliance — you do not have to.

No. The Züri-Sack is for household waste only — kitchen cabinets are classified as bulky waste (Sperrgut) and cannot be placed in standard household waste bags. Placing large items on the pavement without arranging an official ERZ Sperrgutabfuhr collection or a private service is not permitted in Zürich.

A standard kitchen takes 2–4 hours from our arrival to completion. A large kitchen with stone worktops and multiple appliances may take up to 6 hours. We give you an estimated time window in your written quote.

No — disassembly is included in our service. Our team brings the tools needed to remove doors, carcasses, worktops, and fixtures. You do not need to do any preparation beyond ensuring appliances are electrically and plumbing-disconnected before our arrival.

Fridges and freezers manufactured before approximately 1995 contain FCKW refrigerants that must be handled by certified specialists under the Swiss ChemRRV regulations. ZüriClean identifies FCKW-risk appliances during the quote process and coordinates specialist refrigerant extraction where required — this is either included in the quote or clearly itemised.

All materials are sorted and delivered to the correct licensed facilities. Wood goes to ERZ-approved processors; metals to certified scrap recyclers; appliances through the Swiss VRB e-waste system. We do not mix materials or tip everything into one skip. A written Entsorgungsnachweis is available on request.

Yes — this is one of ZüriClean's most popular combinations. Our team removes the kitchen first, then performs the end-of-tenancy clean, including the cleared kitchen area. This typically saves half a day compared to booking two separate services and waiting for different teams.
