A standard two- or three-seater sofa typically weighs between 30–60 kg and fits through most Swiss flat doors. We carry it out as a single unit. Where stairwells are narrow, we tilt the sofa on its side — our team is trained for this.

Corner Sofas & Sectional Sofas

Corner sofas are the most challenging residential item we handle. A large compact L-shape, bigger, more flexible, lounge-style setup can weigh 100–180 kg and consists of multiple joined sections. We assess the layout on arrival, separate the sections where possible, and carry them out individually. Tight staircases or narrow lift doors are not a problem — we have the equipment and the manpower.

Sofa Beds (Schlafsofa)

Sofa beds contain a heavy metal folding frame in addition to the upholstery. This adds significant weight — a standard sofa bed weighs 80–120 kg. We always send a two-person team for sofa bed collections. The metal frame is separated from the upholstery and sent to a metal recycling facility.

Leather Sofas

Leather sofas require specific recycling handling — leather cannot go into standard textile or foam recycling streams. We separate the leather covering from the foam and frame. The leather is processed through specialist facilities, the foam is recycled where possible, and the frame goes to metal or wood recycling as appropriate.

Chesterfield & Designer Sofas

High-value or antique sofas are often better donated than disposed of. Before arranging a collection, consider contacting a local second-hand shop or charity in Zürich — if the sofa is in good condition, they may collect it free of charge.

Eco-Friendly Sofa Disposal — What Happens Next

When we collect your sofa, it does not go to a landfill. Every item is transported to a licensed recycling facility, where materials are separated and processed in accordance with Swiss environmental standards under the USG (Umweltschutzgesetz).

Material-by-material breakdown:

Fabric/textile upholstery: Sent to textile recycling. Clean fabric can be processed into insulation or repurposed material.
Leather: Processed through specialist leather recycling — leather cannot enter standard textile streams.
Foam padding: Shredded and processed into underlay or recycled foam products where possible.
Wooden frame: Taken to licensed wood recycling or, in the case of solid wood, to Recyclinghof Werdhölzli for processing.

The Law on Sofas in Zürich: What You Cannot Do

Can I Leave My Sofa on the Street in Zürich?

No. Placing a sofa on the pavement, in a stairwell, or in a communal courtyard is not permitted in Zürich. Under the city's waste regulations and the Swiss USG (Umweltschutzgesetz), bulky items must be disposed of through approved channels. Leaving a sofa on the street can result in a fine — and you remain responsible for its removal.

Can I Put a Sofa in a Züri-Sack?

No. A sofa is far too large for a Züri-Sack — Zürich's household waste bag system. The Züri-Sack is designed for small household waste only. Large items like sofas, mattresses, and furniture are classified as Sperrgut (bulky waste) and must be handled separately.
